According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, JJ Redick will interview for the Charlotte Hornets’ coaching position. Redick, a 16-year NBA veteran, has no coaching experience at the professional or collegiate level. Since retiring from the NBA in 2021, Redick has become an ESPN columnist. He comments on games for the network, participates in studio broadcasts and hosts podcasts. In addition to his own podcast, The Old Man and the Three, he is also co-host of a new podcast with Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James called Mind the Game.
The Charlotte Hornets are interviewing JJ Redick for their head coaching job, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. The 15-year NBA veteran and former Duke star has shown an interest in making a coaching jump in recent years.

Redick has been considered a high IQ player during his long NBA career and has received praise for his work in the media. He is known for his willingness to analyze the X and O aspects of the game and tries to steer on-air conversations in this direction. Although he did not take an assistant job, Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla tried to hire him last season. Last year he also interviewed with the Toronto Raptors for the head coaching position.
The Hornets are going through a phase of organizational change. Michael Jordan sold the team to Gabe Plotkin and Rick Schnall last season, and former Nets executive Jeff Peterson took over as the team’s new head of basketball operations. He is now looking for a coach to replace Steve Clifford, who will move into a front office role.
