It is highly unlikely that Chris Paul will stay with the Golden State Warriors next season, and then watch out for the San Antonio Spurs. It’s not that Steve Kerr or anyone else is unhappy with his play, this has been Golden State’s best minutes without Curry in years, and a large part of that has been because of Paul. This is just a financial situation where the Warriors are trying to cut taxes and another team will probably offer CP3 more money than the Californians want to give their backup point guard.
Could the Spurs be the ones to step up? It’s no secret that San Antonio is on the hunt for a starting point guard to complement Victor Wembanyama next season, and Marc Stein, in his latest newsletter, said sources have told him that CP3 could be right for them.
“One potential team to keep an eye on, should Paul and the Warriors part ways, is San Antonio. Among the early personnel rumors circulating: The Spurs could emerge as a suitor for Paul if they decide to look for a veteran on a short-term contract to provide the presumed Rookie of the Year winner, Victor Wembanyama, with more experienced help in year two.”
The Spurs are hoping to find a long-term player to join Wembanyama, or at least a mid-term player who will stay for a few years and help the team grow and compete in the postseason in the coming years. Here, this is not Paul. But CP3 is CP3.
