In their most stinging recent defeat against the Denver Nuggets, the Los Angeles Lakers literally squandered a 20-point lead in the second half, falling to Denver in Game 2 tonight in the face of a buzzer beater by Jamal Murray, 101-99, and thus going down 0-2 in the series.

Anthony Davis took the Lakers on his shoulders, scoring 32 points, topped by 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 stoppage. D’Angelo Russell, who has always struggled against the Nuggets, finally played a game worthy of the name, scoring 23 points and finishing 7 of 11 from behind the arc. LeBron James scored 26 points and was an assist machine, dishing out 12. He also collected 8 rebounds.
The Lakers can’t take their foot off the gas. The Nuggets are champions for a reason. They can make partials even when they are down 20. You have to make life difficult for them. If you take a 20-point lead, you have to get to 30.
To waste a masterful performance by AD and D’Lo finally showing up against this team is terrible. It was an incredibly demoralizing defeat, there is not much more to say.
The Lakers’ next game will be Game 3 on Thursday against the Denver Nuggets at crypto.com Arena.
