What is the status of the construction of the Kobe Bryant memorial statue?

Two and a half years have passed since Kobe Bryant’s death. However, his memory and legacy remain as strong as ever. This cannot be more true for Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, who herself had a close personal relationship with the Black Mamba before his untimely death.
Recently, Buss provided an update on the construction of the Kobe Bryant tribute statue. Jeanie Buss made it abundantly clear that this remains a priority for the team’s top leadership:

“These are all things we are discussing internally.” Buss said, via Mark Medina of NBA.com. “Rest assured, we haven’t forgotten anything. But it has to be done in the right way and at the right time.”

As Jeanie said, now it’s all about timing. The Lakers have no intention of forgetting Kobe Bryant and all he has done for the franchise and the city. It seems that Buss is personally concerned with making sure that the organization is able to honor the departed legend in the best way possible.

Jeanie Buss also talked about how much she regrets not having Kobe around anymore. Bryant was an influential figure within the franchise and we can’t help but feel a degree of sadness whenever we think of him:

“The person I miss the most is Kobe. We miss his voice, his friendship and everything that was taken away from us when we lost him. What I do know is that Lakers fans feel the same way I do.”

These are very touching words in which we absolutely recognize ourselves. We all wish Kobe Bryant was still with us, and a statue will not be enough to bring him back.
