Phoenix incredibly tied Indiana’s offer for Ayton

The Phoenix Suns just made a major decision that will have a huge impact on the future of this franchise. After seeing what the market had to offer for big man Deandre Ayton–an offer sheet from the Indiana Pacers in the amount of $133 million over four years–the Suns decided to draw this offer.

This rumor comes directly Shams Charania of The Athletic:

The Phoenix Suns have tied the Indiana Pacers’ four-year offer with a $133 million bid for Deandre Ayton, sources at @TheAthletic @Stadium say. Ayton will remain in Phoenix.

This is a big surprise, considering how the Suns previously gave every indication that they were unwilling to extend Ayton’s deal.

The 23-year-old was involved in a much-publicized spat with coach Monty Williams during Phoenix’s season-ending loss to the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference semifinals, and at that point, it seemed like it was only a matter of time before Ayton took a new path.

Yet they decided not to let go of the 1998-class center drafted now four summers ago by the Phoenix Suns themselves.
