On the night in the NBA there was a clash between the leading candidates for Rookie of the Year: Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren. Despite the two teams’ virtually opposite records, with the Thunder second on 41-18 and the Spurs last with 12-48, it was San Antonio itself that prevailed.
Credit to Wembanyama himself, who unleashed a performance not seen before in the NBA, just days after joining the illustrious 5×5 club. Against OKC, the Frenchman finished with 28 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 steals and 5 threes scored (on 7 attempts). In doing so, the first overall call-up in the 2023 Draft became the first player in history with a try of at least 25 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 stoppages and 5 triples.
This figure demonstrates the extreme versatility of Wemby, who in the last quarter, with less than 2′ to play, rifled a decisive stoppage right to Holmgren.. In these post-All Star Weekend games, the Spurs star elevated his game, making 5 out of 5 double-doubles.

At the moment, in the race for Rookie of the Year, Wemby seems to have built some advantage over his pursuers, starting with Holmgren himself. The latter scored 23 points with 7 rebounds in the game against San Antonio.
