Shaquille O’Neal wants an NBA franchise in Las Vegas

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has expressed several times over the past year or so that he would like to be part of an ownership group that would bring an NBA team to Las Vegas. As of today, another Lakers legend, Shaquille O’Neal, has stated his desire to own a team in Las Vegas and has made it clear that he does not want to partner with anyone.

“I would love to have my own franchise.”, Shaquille O’Neal told Arash Markazi of The Messenger. “I know Las Vegas hasn’t been assigned an NBA team yet, but if they ever get to a point where they get a team, I would like to be part of it. I don’t want to cooperate with anyone. I want everything for myself.”

It will be interesting to see if the NBA will consider expansion in the near future. According to Markazi, Las Vegas and Seattle are the most likely destinations for franchise expansion.

Who knows if Shaquille O’Neal or LeBron James will be interested in owning the Seattle team if they lose the Las Vegas franchise. Maybe they could get together then and build a franchise there where the Seattle Sonics have been for years.
