Shai Gilgeous-Alexander purchased a $6.1 million home near Lake Ontario but now wants to cancel the purchase.
The transaction of the house in Burlington, Ontario, took place in May. A few days later, Gilgeous-Alexander began receiving strange visits to his home: some threatening-looking people approached the home on several occasions, as reported by Ian Austen of the New York Times.
The house belonged to Aiden Pleterski, a self-described “cryptocurrency king” who owes $19.5 million to more than 150 investment clients after filing for bankruptcy in 2022.
Pleterski was even kidnapped in December 2022 by one of his investors and four other men, Austen cites in court documents. He had a security guard to scare off possible attackers, but he eventually left the house.
Gilgeous-Alexander claims, through a holding company, that this information was not disclosed during the purchase of the house and wants the transaction to be reversed. The main argument is that the original seller did not inform the buyers of the connection between the house and Pleterski, compromising the well-being of the future owner.
We’ll see how this will turn out but it is certainly an absurd story involving the hapless Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
