The player who made the best impact this season by starting from the bench is Naz Reid. So ruled the NBA by awarding the Minnesota Timberwolves’ longest serving member of the Sixth Man of the Year.
Reid, in his fifth year in the league, played his best career season with 13.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 0.9 steals averaged in just over 24′ of usage. The LSU product, undrafted in 2019, started in the quintet only 14 times in 81 games played.
In voting for Sixth Man, Reid narrowly edged out Malik Monk: 352 versus 342 points. Rounding out the podium of finalists is Bobby Portis, who, however, scored only 81 points. Full voting results here.
Naz Reid is only the third undrafted player in NBA history to win the Sixth Man of the Year award: only John Starks (1997) and Darrell Armstrong (1999) had made it before him.
