Luka Doncic has been doing crazy things in recent weeks with the Dallas Mavericks. Entering Tuesday night’s contest against the San Antonio Spurs, Doncic had an average of 35.2 points (with 49.7 percent shooting from the field made), 9.6 rebounds and 10.2 assists in the last month. These are elite numbers that one would think would translate into another big game against the Spurs’ 23rd ranked defense.
However, even the best players fall victim to bad shooting nights, and Doncic is no different. On Tuesday, there were times when the Mavericks star couldn’t even score Pagan and it showed; Doncic, despite scoring a triple-double (18 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists) in a 113-107 win, shot a horrible 6 of 27 from the field (22 percent), his worst shooting performance of the season.
Luka Dončić just became the 2nd player in NBA history to shoot 6/27 FG or worse and STILL be at least a +5 in +/-.

Doncic’s defensive focus makes him an impactful player even if his shot doesn’t go in; the Spurs weren’t about to challenge the Mavericks star on his shot, even though he was having a nightmare night.
