Over the summer, one of his over-the-top Instagram live shows, Kai Jones had said he was sure that the Charlotte Hornets would not give him up. Then it was the player himself, a couple of days ago, who wrote on X that he had asked the franchise for a trade. Trade that, however, has not come and will not come: as reported by Shams Charania, Charlotte directly cut Jones.
The public demand for a trade was the final straw after Kai Jones was also dismissed from the team indefinitely. In his two seasons in the NBA, the 19th overall pick in the 2021 Draft had played only 67 games with 2.7 points average.
During Summer League, Jones had made headlines by dunking over Victor Wembanyama’s head in his first game with the Spurs. Aside from that highlight, however, the Hornets’ long player’s summer was punctuated only by big shots on social media and over-the-top behavior.
