It was September 2, 2022 when, during a friendly match with Italbasket, Danilo Gallinari had injured his cruciate ligament. Since then began a long rehabilitation that prevented the Rooster first of all from playing the European Championship with the Azzurri, but also from taking the court with the Boston Celtics with whom he had just signed. The green-and-whites, after a season completely in the pits, had then traded Gallinari to the Washington Wizards last July.
In these first few months in Washington, the Rooster has completed the rehabilitation process, and last night, more than a year after his last, he finally returned to play. It was only preseason, and the Wizards ramped up 145-82 against the Cairns Taipans., an Australian team that finished the NBL in third place last season, but Gallinari stayed on the court nearly 17′ scoring 15 points with 5/7 from the field and 3/4 three-pointers. The Italian also added 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 rebound.
