Harden, 34, skipped NBA Preseason 2023 Media Day. In addition to fueling the call to be traded, the articles that followed revealed an intention to make the situation as uncomfortable as possible. The player is expected to extend the push to be traded elsewhere in the league.
After accepting the player option for the 2023-2024 season, the experienced combo guard still has one year left on his contract. However, he has requested a trade citing president of basketball operations Daryl Morey as the main reason. The Los Angeles Clippers have emerged as his preferred destination.
The 2022-23 season was his first full one with the 76ers and 14th in the NBA. The 2018 season MVP, named to the All-Star Game ten years in a row from 2013-2022, scored 20.9 points, 10.3 assists and 6.1 rebounds per contest between regular season and playoffs.
