Tyronn Lue’s Los Angeles Clippers needed a period of adjustment after acquiring James Harden in a trade with former Doc Rivers’ Philadelphia 76ers, but they have since been one of the best teams in the NBA.
After the James Harden trade, former Sixers coach Doc Rivers said he spoke with Clippers staff members who contacted him about Harden’s potential inclusion on the team. Before the Clippers’ game against the Milwaukee Bucks, coach Tyronn Lue confirmed that he spoke with Rivers before making the trade for Harden, as reported by Law Murray of The Athletic.
“Yes, I talked to Doc Rivers a lot about the James situation, to get his feedback, to know what he thought worked and what didn’t work, and he thought he would be a great trade for us, basically a no-brainer. We got James and he agreed to sacrifice. He became a better catch-and-shoot player because now with Kawhi and PG on the floor he has to take more catch-and-shoot from three, so he did everything we asked of him.”

Doc told T Lue that it would be a great trade for the Clippers, “pretty much a no brainer.” Lue praised Harden (again) for his sacrifices to set up Kawhi/PG, and said Doc said it from “day one” pic.twitter.com/Vwa1mvZy41
