Jontay Porter will not be allowed to set foot in the NBA again, for his entire career. The league announced this a short while ago, after finishing the investigation around the sports betting case involving the Toronto Raptors’ longtime player and older brother of Michael Porter Jr.
The NBA determined that Porter was in cahoots with some bettors, allowing them to win sums (probably later split) even exceeding $1 million, betting on his statistics. Among the factors that convinced the league to impose a lifetime disqualification on the player was the fact that some of the bets were on Raptors losses.
As written by the NBA in the release in which it announced Jontay Porter’s suspension, the player, even before the incriminated match on March 20, had reported to a well-known bettor information about his own health condition, thus leading him to bet on the under related to the Toronto long man’s performance. In addition, a person close to Porter allegedly bet $80,000 (winning $1.1 million) on the player’s under in the infamous March 20 match, in which he remained on the court only 3′ before exiting for a unspecified illness, finishing with 0 points and 2 rebounds.
