Chris Paul: “Starting on the bench? Are you sure?”

Chris Paul represented one of the most surprising market hits in recent weeks.

His move to the Golden State Warriors was in some ways unexpected. And it may open an unprecedented parenthesis in his career, that of a second unit player. So far, in fact, CP3 has always played in the base quintet in the NBA.

Now, with Stephen Curry on the team, his entry from the bench seems almost a foregone conclusion. But the person directly involved disagrees and responded sharply to the reporter who pointed this out to him, at his introductory press conference in Las Vegas during the Summer League.

But are you the coach? The truth is that this has not yet been established. I have talked with the coach but not about the role I will have in the rotations. We will address this issue at the beginning of training camp.

In all likelihood Paul will have to lead the second unit as Jordan Poole did but apparently he has not spoken to the coaching staff about it. But can CP3’s words be interpreted as heralding a difficult coexistence with Golden State’s stars?
