Why will Doc Rivers coach the East at the All-Star Game despite being at the Bucks for only a week?

Doc Rivers’ tenure as coach of the Milwaukee Bucks has just reached the one-week mark and he has already secured a spot in the All-Star Game.

The NBA has announced that Rivers and his coaching staff will lead the Eastern Conference All-Star Teams. against those of the West in a couple of weeks.

The Bucks’ 129 to 117 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday night gave the Bucks the best record in the East after games played Feb. 4 among teams with eligible coaches for All-Star Weekend.

Although the Boston Celtics boast the best record in the East (37-12), their coach, Joe Mazzulla, is not eligible to participate this year because he served as head coach at last season’s All-Star Game.

Milwaukee, which currently ranks second in the East with a 33-16 record, now takes the reins at the All-Star Game. Rivers took over as Bucks coach only last week, following the departure of Adrian Griffin.

With a 1-2 record under his leadership, this is the fourth time Doc Rivers has coached at the All-Star Game, having done so in 2008, 2011 and 2021. The All-Star Game will be held in Indianapolis on Feb. 18.
