After the death of Bill Russell, the NBA has decided to withdraw no. 6 in his memory.
No player, therefore, will be allowed to have the #6 on his shoulders from now on, except for those who already had it before the Boston Celtics legend’s passing.
Alex Caruso however, would still have wanted to pay tribute to Russell by giving up his number. The NBA, however, prevented him from doing so because his jersey is one of the 75 best-selling.
Alex Caruso said he did give some thought to changing No. 6 in honor of Bill Russell but was told he couldn’t because his jersey is in top 75 for jersey sales. All teams are wearing No. 6 patches on uniforms. Said he would revisit decision next season.

Chicago therefore will be one of the few NBA teams to still have a #6, and Caruso will remain the last #6 in Bulls history.
