This is not the first time Kris Dunn and Jabari Smith Jr. have clashed. Last Jan. 20, both players received a technical foul when they started a shoving brawl (no punches) during the third quarter of the overtime-ending loss between the Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets. But on this night at the Toyota Center, instead of exchanging words and shoving, both players lashed out at each other.
Barely five seconds had elapsed in the second quarter of a contest later won by the Rockets 147 to 119 and Smith and Dunn found themselves in contact, with Dunn clinging to Smith’s jersey, before both players tried to hit each other.
Neither player threw a punch, but according to the letter of the law, throwing a punch does not count, and both players were ejected. After the game, Kris Dunn said about the brawl with Jabari Smith Jr. to the Deseret News that it was just two guys exchanging a few words and then going a little further. He also said he will respect any other discipline in the league..
