Recently, NBA market rumors have been heating up regarding Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young, who has been out of the lineup since late February after undergoing finger surgery. Since then, the Hawks have oddly made up some ground in the Eastern Conference playoff standings, so much so that some have wondered if the team might decide to look for potential suitors for Young this offseason. Of course, one team that always enters the discussion when a big name is on the market are the Los Angeles Lakers, and it didn’t take long for talk of Trae-to-LA for Trae Young to begin among Lakers fans.
For his part, NBA insider Jovan Buha of The Athletic added some fuel to the fire with his comments during a live stream (via Silver Screen & Roll).
“The Lakers will be hunting for a third star this off-season and we will see how that will affect the DLO situation. Probably in almost every trade to get the third star they will insert Austin Reaves. Who is available? The name I always hear is Trae Young. He’s been to Lakers playoff games before, he’s a Clutch Sports client. He’s probably the most realistic right now.”
Now another NBA insider has added further context to these discussions about Trae Young to the Lakers.
“To me the Hawks issue is interesting because only recently there have been real rumors about the possibility of Trae Young actually being traded.”, said Tim McMahon of ESPN (per Jesse Cinquini of Lakers Daily). “Only recently has there been any thought that the Hawks might consider this possibility.”
