Dwyane Wade started a podcast this week, The Why. In the first episode he invited legendary Europeans Dirk Nowitzki, Tony Parker and Pau Gasol, and they also talked about Luka Doncic.
When Wade asked who could be considered the greatest European basketball player of all time (shortened to GOAT), Nowitzki shared his admiration for what today’s superstars are doing.
“I’m actually very proud to watch them, honestly. We know that records are there to be broken, things always happen, someone always comes along who is better and does better things, does more, is more athletic. It just happens, that’s life. I’m really proud to watch these guys. I see Luka every day and the things he does. He’s going to be in the conversation for a long, long time.”, Nowitzki said.
At that point Tony Parker interrupted him by saying that Doncic cannot be compared to Dirk.
“For me, to be considered as such, you have to win a title. That’s just my personal opinion. I like the debate about who is the GOAT. I always discuss GOAT with my brother and my friends. It’s like a conversation in a boat, we are always arguing, debating. For me, since I won a championship, if you don’t understand what it takes to win a championship, I don’t think you should participate in the GOAT debate.”, Parker concluded.
