Thunder cut Aleksej Pokusevski: future in Europe for him?

The Oklahoma City Thunder are waiving Aleksej Pokusevski, according to reports from Shams Charania of The Athletic. The Serbian wing was the Thunder’s No. 17 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and played about 150 games in nearly four years, averaging 7.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists in the regular season.

The 22-year-old Serbian played his last game on Feb. 10 in the loss to Dallas, where he was on the court for only six minutes of play. Since the start of 2024 he has accumulated only 18 minutes, including 7 against Charlotte and 5 against San Antonio.

Pokusevski was drafted in 2020 at 17th overall by Minnesota, but was traded to Oklahoma three days later in a three-team trade. After a promising start in the NBA, injuries led to reduced time on the court and eventually cost him his spot on the team. In his rookie season he was the youngest player by minutes in the entire NBA.

Before going overseas, he was part of the Olympiacos lineup, becoming the youngest player on the Piraeus team to make his EuroLeague debut. Who knows maybe he will decide to return to Europe for this final season?
