Simone Fontecchio updates on condition and when he will return to the field

The last game of Simone Fontecchio dates back to March 17: then an absence that lasts now for 10 days due to a toe injury. Initially it seemed like small stuff, but the Italian has already missed 5 games: however, the return seems close. Fontecchio talked about it to the microphones of Gazzetta dello Sport after the Madison Square Garden game against the Knicks: “It’s nothing very serious, I’m trying to recover as soon as possible. It’s taking a little longer than expected but I hope to be back for the last games of the season.”.

Arriving in Detroit at the trade deadline in early February, in this month and a half with the Pistons Fontecchio has seen his minutes and also his stats increase over the Jazz. In March, pre-injury, the former Utah man was scoring. 15.7 points on average including an NBA career-high of 27 against Dallas. The team’s performance remains what it is: 12-60 season record, no one has done worse.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t win as many games, but there was a marked improvement over the first few outings. We were always there to play, even against strong teams. I think and hope there is still room for improvement.” Simone Fontecchio said. The Pistons are a very young team, with Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren, Jaden Ivey and James Wiseman himself finding more continuity of performance in recent weeks.

A return of Fontecchio already before the end of the regular season would also be great for Italy, since the Italian will be one of the stars of our national team at the Pre-Olympic in Puerto Rico to be played from July 2 to 7. Obviously Fontecchio would have time to heal in any case, but not stopping for too long will surely help in not losing his rhythm since the Pistons will not make the Playoffs.
