We love sports for the challenges it tells, and basketball is no exception. The NBA was built on the basis of a rivalry, that between the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers, later rising even stronger in the era of Michael Jordan, pitted first against Charles Barkley, then Patrick Ewing, and finally the Stockton-Malone duo. Today we want to talk about a dualism that lasted perhaps only one season, or little more anyway, between two of the best longs the National Basketball Association has ever been able to sport in its entire existence. David Robinson, the admiral of the San Antonio Spurs, vs. Shaq “The Diesel” O’Neal of the Orlando Magic for the NBA’s top scorer title for the 1993-94 season. A truly epic duality culminated in the last game of that regular season with a legendary performance by one of the two. A Wilt Chamberlain performance or a little less to put it mildly.
