Poland wants to naturalize Malcolm Brogdon: why can it and how?

According to Przeglad Sportowy, Portland Trail Blazers guard Malcolm Brogdon is interested in playing in Poland, and the country’s basketball federation is trying to accommodate him.

There are also several other players on the Federation’s list, but the NBA player, who also has family ties to the city of Slupsk, could definitely be the team’s biggest star if he takes his place on the roster as a naturalized player.

Brogdon’s connection to Poland comes from his wife, who is of Polish descent and whose relatives live in the vicinity of Slupsk. Brogdon also visited the city last summer, during which he also trained with Pawel Leonczyk, who previously played for the Polish national team.

This season the 29-year-old has averaged 18.5 points, 5.8 assists and 5.1 rebounds in 30 regular season games, all as a starter.

We’ll see if the Poles succeed in naturalizing the NBA player. Certainly Poland would exponentially increase its value with Malcolm Brogdon on the roster. In a few weeks we will know whether there have been advances or not.
