Nikola Jokic comments on his third MVP title: “I would have preferred not to win it…”

Nikola Jokic won the third title of MVP of the NBA regular season in his career.

A well-deserved award but the direct stated that he preferred last season’s, when he did not take home the award but the NBA champion ring.

In all honesty, I liked it better last year when I didn’t win the MVP but then won the NBA title. This award matters mostly for my legacy, when I retire I will be more proud of myself than I am now. How will the next generations see me? I will probably be seen as a cool grandfather… The future? I don’t want to take away any young people’s place or put the franchise in a difficult situation. I will play as long as I can do it at a high level and can help the team win.

Words that by the way seem to show little conviction in the possibility of reopening the conference semifinal series. Indeed, at the moment, Minnesota leads 2-0 over the Nuggets and has won both of its first two games in Denver.

During the press conference also a curious little joke with Shaquille O’Neal. Shaq, as a columnist for TNT, said he thought the award should have gone to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Jokic jokingly responded, “Don’t worry, no one will judge you. You said something funny but it’s your opinion.”
