Paolo Banchero’s Orlando Magic had a golden opportunity to extend their winning streak to seven in tonight’s game against the Atlanta Hawks.
The Magic came roaring back from trailing by 13 points in the fourth quarter and even took a 125-124 lead with seconds left after Markelle Fultz scored two baskets in a row. However, the Magic’s inexperience paid off in a negative sense, particularly for Paolo Banchero.
Banchero fouled Dejounte Murray with just 1.1 seconds left in the contest. The former Spurs made both free throws to put the Hawks back in the lead. Soon after, the Magic’s 20-year-old rookie had a chance to get the win, took a shot with seconds on the clock but unfortunately it smashed on the iron.
Markelle Fultz, in his postgame interview, urged Paul Banchero to keep his head up despite his mistakes in crucial moments.
“Keep your head up. I know he’s probably frustrated with that foul and that shot and more plays during the game. But it’s a long season. He’s a rookie, he’s playing very well and he’s extremely hard on himself. And I know how it feels, when you feel like you could have done something more to win the conteda. But, again, it’s not just those plays that led us to lose the game.”.
