Manu Ginobili is in Italy.
Nearly 20 years after his time in our country ended, Ginobili has returned to the land that launched him to great NBA basketball. The motivation is a docu film about his career due to be released in 2024 on Disney Plus. The Argentine is in Italy for filming and interviews in the iconic places of his experience in the Bel Paese and to collect some key testimonies.
First stop Bologna, where Ginobili landed in the past few days and spent quite a bit of time with former teammate Hugo Sconochini. For the two there was also time for a game of padel, guests of Virtus. This morning the former Spurs player was given a jersey from this year’s Black Vs, then a video message arrived for all HCL fans.

In these hours Manu Ginobili is moving to Reggio Calabria to produce material regarding his experience at Viola, which occurred before his move to then-Kinder. A talk by Gaetano Gebbia, the coach who launched him into Italian basketball, is scheduled. Tomorrow at 11 a.m., a ceremony orchestrated by the City Council at Palazzo San Giorgio, where Ginobili will receive the San Giorgio d’Oro, the highest merit of the city of Reggio, which was awarded to him in 2006. Local dignitaries and some former Viola teammates and historical figures will be present, the event is open to the public upon accreditation via e-mail at [email protected] and will be broadcast live on the City’s YouTube channel.
