With tonight’s win by the Los Angeles Lakers over the Cleveland Cavaliers, the California franchise overtook the Sacramento Kings in the standings and are now eighth, inside the Play-In one step away from the mathematical playoffs. In fact, sixth place in the standings, currently occupied by the Phoenix Suns, is within reach because the Lakers are 45-33 while the Arizona franchise is 46-31. So one more win with one less contest.
There are only four games left in the regular season and the Californians have some tough contests, Memphis Grizzlies aside, because they have to face at home first the Minnesota Timberwolves, battling for first place in the West standings with the Denver Nuggets, then the Golden State Warriors, also at the Crypto.com Arena, in the hunt for the Play-In Tournament, and finally the Pelicans in New Orleans, who are more or less in the standings situation of LeBron and co.
I mean, it’s tough. Very difficult. But not impossible. It takes a hell of a lot of interlocking however, we can now say that these Lakers will be among the favorites at the Play-In, and should they get there, a loose cannon in the playoffs, the ranking team you never want to meet, especially if you are as young as OKC or Minnesota.
