Lakers, is Christian Wood the key trade pawn this trade deadline?

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have won three consecutive games after a rough start to their monster Grammy trip. The Lakers are now two games above .500 as they return to Los Angeles, and James has continued to play at an All-NBA level despite recently turning 39. Watch out, though, because the Lakers could move Christian Wood.

As with many other LeBron James teams, several Lakers role players have likely lost sleep over the past few nights as the NBA trade deadline approaches and one name that has fueled the rumors is that of Lakers big man Christian Wood, who signed with the team in free agency last offseason.

“If L.A. doesn’t make a bigger deal, don’t be surprised if the Lakers decide to give up a second-round pick to get Christian Wood on another roster.”, John Hollinger of The Athletic reported recently. “His $3 million player option for next season will likely make the deal more expensive than a typical deal with an expiring minimum contract. But in L.A.’s case, the financial calculation to access the distribution of about $9 million in fees to taxed teams will make it a worthwhile deal.”

Christian Wood has had a somewhat up-and-down season so far in his new role as a Lakers player, and recently tweeted “lol” shortly after Los Angeles’ starting lineup against the Atlanta Hawks was announced without his presence.
