The NBA never ceases to surprise. In one of the most shocking and puzzling twists of the offseason, Kyrie Irving will meet with Kevin Durant’s Phoenix Suns, according to a report by Chris Haynes. Yes, that Kyrie will meet with the Suns. If you’re confused, you’re definitely not alone.
“NBA star Kyrie Irving plans to meet with the Phoenix Suns when the free agency period begins June 30, league sources tell @NBAonTNT, @BleacherReport.”

At first glance, this does not seem to make sense. The Phoenix Suns already have three absolute or near-caliber players in Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. Adding another player of Irving’s level seems impossible. However, one way this move could happen resides in DeAndre Ayton. A sign-and-trade involving Ayton and Irving should facilitate this.
Whether this is a good or bad move, however, is up for debate. On paper, a team consisting of Irving, Durant, Booker, and Beal looks absolutely incredible. The firepower of that team would simply be insane. However … super teams are rarely successful, especially those that are hastily assembled. This Suns roster is already plagued by bench problems. Trading their only level-headed center could be detrimental to them.
