Kyrie Irving is THE name of the last few hours in the NBA, given his trade request to the Brooklyn Nets who will only have until Thursday to trade him. The point guard also shared with the Nets a list of preferred destinations, which for now has not been disclosed. All that is known is that in it are the Los Angeles Lakers, but this is nothing new: Irving had also been approached by the yellow-viola last summer, when renewal talks with Brooklyn had broken down.
The Lakers are Irving’s preferred destination, but for their part they do not have much to offer other than a couple of draft picks and Russell Westbrook (also expiring in the summer). According to Brian Windhorst, LA would not be sure about taking Irving via trade and then offering him a renewal of more than 200 million total. Then again, Kyrie is coming off two tumultuous, as well as negative, experiences to say the least, first in Boston and now in Brooklyn.
According to Marc Stein, in addition to the Lakers there would also be the Dallas Mavericks among the teams particularly vigilant on the issue. The Texans would like to pair Luka Doncic with a superstar worthy of the name. According to Shams Charania, there would also be the Phoenix Suns.
