Kyrie Irving admonishes Ben Simmons after bad debut

Nightmarish season debut for Ben Simmons, who in his first official game in over a year closed with 4 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in his Brooklyn Nets\’ narrow loss to New Orleans. The Australian is also exited with 6 fouls after 23′, shooting only 3 times from the field.

The poor performance did not go unnoticed and was commented on in the postgame by Kyrie Irving, another who certainly did not shine against the Pelicans (15 points, 5 assists and 6/19 from the field). The black-and-white point guard \”admonished\” his new partner, saying that \”going out for fouls is not an option.\”

We told Simmons in the locker room that he has value to us and we need him to stay on the court. Going out for fouls is not an option. We want him to play aggressively, but we also want him to play smart.

Irving then also talked about the Nets\’ bad approach:

It\’s always going to be like this throughout the year, we always have to play with a competitive spirit. I don\’t want to sit here after every game and say we should have done this or that. It\’s a grown man\’s league, the more physical team wins.
