The Phoenix Suns are among the championship contenders with a trio of superstars consisting of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.
More than a third of the way through the 2023-24 NBA regular season, Phoenix had these players on the court for only one full game. The Suns are 14-14 and 11th in the Western Conference.
Before the Suns face the Dallas Mavericks on Christmas, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said the team is feeling the frustration of Durant, who is still playing at a very high level. Kevin Durant was traded to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson and Jae Crowder, as well as draft capital, in February, with the expectation of leading the Suns to their first NBA championship.
“Talking to people in Phoenix and the organization, you can sense the frustration with Durant. Part of that frustration is definitely the games lost by Brad Beal. This team was built around these three stars, but the unsatisfactory supporting cast that comes from the trades for Durant and Bradley Beal has gutted the organization and made them sign a lot of second-tier players…they lack the resources, the draft picks, the trade capital to really go out and improve this team. This is something they will have to manage with Kevin Durant in Phoenix. That makes us realize how short a window they have to win. They have to win quickly.”
