Jayson Tatum is now a banner of the Boston Celtics.
Things could have turned out differently, however. Indeed, the person directly involved, when he was selected by the Celtics in 2017, wished they had turned out differently. Tatum, in fact, revealed that as a rookie he did not consider Boston the ideal place to grow up, believing he would find little room with the many stars the green-and-whites had on their team.
I did not want to come to Boston because I thought I would not find space. In 2017 there were stars like Gordon Hayward, Jaylen Brown, Isaiah Thomas, and Marcus Smart, I didn’t think I was good enough to be on that roster. But in the end nothing happens by chance: I had equally many opportunities, it was a long process with many ups and downs, I had the chance to make mistakes and grow by playing important games.
