LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers faced Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns in an early-season meeting. James and Durant strangely had not faced each other in five years due to various injuries and other circumstances, which led to high anticipation from Lakers and Suns fans for the meeting.
Before the game, Durant himself had words of praise for James, his all-time opponent:
“I’m looking forward to making a basket against what is probably the best ever.” Kevin Durant said about LeBron James, according to the official account of the NBA on X.
“I’m looking forward to hooping against arguably the best ever.”

LeBron James and Kevin Durant have faced each other in several postseasons during their illustrious NBA careers. The first meeting was in 2012, when James’ Miami Heat defeated Durant’s Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals. Durant then got revenge on James in 2017 and 2018, when the Golden State Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in consecutive NBA Finals.
The encounters James and Durant have had with each other over the years seem to have only increased the mutual respect between two of the greatest players the game has ever seen.
