Last month, just before EuroBasket, the words of Gilbert Arenas at Giannis Antetokounmpo. The former Washington Wizards player had said that the Greek “doesn’t understand basketball, how to be great, how to improve.”. Until now Giannis had never commented on those words, but he did so while speaking with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel now that he is back in the States for the NBA season.
Antetokounmpo as usual was not rancorous in his response, but he did not spare himself a dig:
Did his words bother me? I won’t lie, they make me want to work even harder. Do I think about them when I get home and they don’t make me sleep? Not necessarily. But eventually I don’t know, when I’m 45 or 50 maybe I’ll be a little bit prickly too. Maybe I’ll see these 20-year-olds making money signing $900 million contracts in three years.. Maybe, I don’t know, but I don’t think so. I’m thankful for everything God has given me, for my children, my brothers, my family, the people I work with. I am thankful and I don’t think I will ever be like that.
