G-League’s Mac McClung to participate in Slam Dunk Contest

Lo Slam Dunk Contest 2023 will have a brand new feature, though perhaps not the one that fans expected. Mac McClung will be the first G-League player to participate in the dunk contest of the all-star Saturday, joining Shaedon Sharpe of Portland and KJ Martin Houston. Thus, only one participant is missing, but the names, although they are athletes of absolute value, are certainly not ones to attract fans.

Sharpe is a rookie and is making a decent showing at the Blazers, but he still plays less than 20′ average. So is Martin, who at the Rockets, in his third season in the NBA, is scoring. 10.6 points on average. McClung, on the other hand, had signed with Golden State for training camp last summer, only to be cut: he now plays for the Delaware Blue Coats, an affiliate of the Detroit Pistons.

Mac McClung – the athletic 6-foot-2 guard playing for G League’s Delaware Blue Coats – has accepted an invitation to be in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest at All-Star Weekend, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.
McClung will be the first ever G League player in the NBA dunk contest.
