Draymond Green after CONTESTED EXPULSION: “These are the DRAYMOND RULES!”

Draymond Green, star of the Golden State Warriors, suffered an ejection in the third quarter of the 118 to 110 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Green had an altercation with Donovan Mitchell of the Cavs that led to the second technical foul of the game and Green’s ejection midway through the third quarter. Mitchell appeared to be upset because Green pushed Mitchell after Green’s steal on the previous play. Green was pushing the ball toward the court when Mitchell came up behind and pushed Green, causing an altercation between the Cavs and Warriors stars.

After an official review, Green was given the second technical foul and Mitchell a common foul. After the game, officials explained to Draymond Green that they gave him technical, and thus ejection, for the action before the face-off. A decision that the Warriors’ head coach called bizarre.:

“He received a technical foul for elbowing Mitchell a couple of plays earlier. I had never heard of this rule, but apparently you can retroactively call a technical on someone two plays earlier upon review.”

After the game, Green said he had already suffered retroactive technical fouls, as reported by Shayna Rubin of the San Jose Mercury News:

Draymond Green pointed out that this is not the first time he has been whistled for a retroactive foul, referring to the flagrant foul called days later in the 2016 NBA Finals. “It’s the Draymond Rules.”
