Dallas Mavericks punished by NBA for their season-ending tanking

The NBA conducted the proper investigation and eventually sanctioned the Dallas Mavericks for their behavior during the last regular season games. The Texans had rested all their starters despite still being in the running for the Play-in, with the aim of being eliminated and being almost certain to keep a Draft pick that would otherwise have ended up in New York. For this attitude, which can be considered tanking, the NBA fined the franchise $750,000..

In its statement, the league specified that it could not prove that those who took part in the April 7 game against Chicago were playing to lose. On that occasion Dallas lost only at the buzzer to the Bulls, mathematically saying goodbye to the possibility of qualifying for the Play-in.
