For now little more than a suggestion but one that comes from a reputable source. I Cleveland Cavaliers would be planning the second return to the home of LeBron James, who will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of next season.
The Ohio franchise’s current maneuvers, according to Brian Windhorst, would focus on freeing up salary space to welcome back LBJ (and an experienced supporting cast to help him in a new title run). The reporter from ESPN has always been one of LeBron’s closest associates, although he was quick to point out that these are his assumptions and not news reports.
The scenario however is plausible because in the coming summer the Cavs will no longer have the ballast of the 29 million per year to be paid to Kevin Love and will also get rid of the 19 currently paid to Caris Levert. On the roster, however, there would already be a number of interesting players such as Darius Garland, Evan Mobley e Jarrett Allen, spearheads of a team that would have another season to gain experience before welcoming the King. “These Cavaliers are stronger than those who welcomed him in 2014,” Windhorst adds hissily, recalling that LBJ, after his Miami adventure, plunged back into a roster that started from a much less solid base than the one he would find in a few months.
The hypothesis of a “last dance” home, ending his career in his Cleveland, must still be tantalizing for LeBron. Especially if the new season with the Lakers turns out to be as disappointing as the last one.
This also explains the problems in the renewal of Collin Sexton, who has been offered lower figures than his expectations. Should he, too, contribute to the treasury for James (and side dish) by leaving something on the plate?
