Gordon Hayward was one of the hottest names ahead of today’s NBA trade deadline, and indeed in the end the Charlotte Hornets have traded him to the Oklahoma City Thunder, as reported by Shams Charania. The Hornets, who initially asked for a first-round pick in the draft, settled for the Tre Mann and Davis Bertans.
UPDATE: Vasilije Micic, a two-time EuroLeague MVP and draft pick from OKC to Charlotte, also falls in the exchange.
Hayward, 34 next month, is maintaining this year’s 14.5 points average although he has not played more than 52 games in a single season since the 2017-18 season (in Boston). The player, who earns $31.5 million, is set to expire in the summer.
In OKC, Gordon Hayward will bolster the outside department, which can already count on talents such as Josh Giddey and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The Thunder are currently first in the West with a 35-16 record, on par with the Clippers and Timberwolves.
Hornets are expected to acquire a package centered around Tre Mann and salaries, sources said. Mann, a 2021 first-round pick, has upside as a talented young guard. https://t.co/sjEmDORN5n
