LeBron James was already envied in the NBA when he was in high school. In fact, before his long journey to the NBA back in 2003, he had already attracted the attention of the world to the point that senior players at the time were envious of the then Cleveland Cavaliers superstar, according to Rich Paul’s statement during a recent interview with Shannon Sharpe on Club Shay Shay..
“It’s trivial–a $100 million contract, Jay-Z sending him a private jet when he was in high school–that develops envy.”, Paul told Sharpe when asked what players thought of LeBron James when the former first overall pick entered the league two decades ago.

The hype surrounding LeBron James in high school, prior to his selection in the 2003 Draft by the Cavs, was unprecedented, much less for a prospect who had never played college basketball. In his first professional season with Cleveland, James averaged 20.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.9 assists in 79 games (all as a starter), winning that year’s Rookie of the Year award.
