Russell Westbrook and Donovan Mitchell: the possible entanglement between the Lakers, Jazz and Knicks

The soap opera Donovan Mitchell could result in a resounding landing at the Los Angeles Lakers.

According to Marc Stein of the New York Post, the relations between the Utah Jazz and the New York Knicks would cool off again. A tug-of-war has been going on for weeks between the two sides due to the fact that the New York Islanders do not want to give up all the young or draft picks that Danny Ainge would like to take to Salt Lake City.

In this scenario, the Lakers seem to have inserted themselves, who may be able to get rid of Russell Westbrook and his final year of a $46 million contract. Utah, in its plan to rebuilding, would take the point guard to free up salary space at the end of the season, while also getting the valuable yellowviolet first-round picks in the 2027 and 2029 Drafts. Mitchell would land in LA to compose with LeBron Davis and Anthony Davis a trio capable of returning to compete for the top finish line.

Another possibility is a three-way trade involving the Knicks as well. That way Mitchell would actually end up in New York, the Lakers would get. Evan Fournier from the Knicks and possibly even Bojan Bogdanovic from Utah, the Jazz could get Westbrook, the two California picks and a few others (one, maximum two) put on the plate by the Big Apple franchise.
