Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors have had an up-and-down start to the 2023-24 NBA season. The Warriors are currently one game short of a 50 percent win-loss mark, 8-9, and so far Thompson has looked like his poor cousin at times, as his shooting percentages on the season are still well below his career averages.
Recently, the former Boston Celtics legend, Paul Pierce, spoke a brutal truth about Klay Thompson’s struggles and what they mean for the Warriors in the future.
“Steph Curry is always great, but if you don’t have a top-tier Klay Thompson, it’s different.”, Paul Pierce said about Klay Thompson at former Celtics teammate Kevin Garnett’s KG Certified podcast, via SHOWTIME Basketball. “You can’t be the same defensively. Remember Klay was one of the best players on both ends of the court at one point in his career, but now as he gets older, these defensive assignments with these young stars are difficult. He has to guard Devin Booker, he has to guard Jaylen Brown. He has to defend on these players … when you have so many miles behind you and age advancing, it’s tough.”
