Dejan Milojevic, who died tragically at age 46 from a sudden illness, was an important figure for many teams, but two in particular. The Partizan Belgrade, with whom he played from 2004 to 2006, winning the Serbian championship 2 times and the title of MVP of the Adriatic League 2 times, and the Golden State Warriors, a team he coached (as an assistant) since 2021 and with whom he won the NBA title in 2022.
Now the two teams, to honor him, would be in contact to arrange a friendly, probably at the end of the season. Ostoja Mijailovic, patron of the HCL club, confirmed the news to B92: “That’s right, we are thinking of inviting Golden State to play an outdoor game. The match would be played in honor of Dejan Milojevic. Soon there will be an Executive Assembly and we will discuss it. Milojevic left an important imprint on Partizan, we will also discuss a match that we could play every year before the start of the season in his honor.”.
On the other side Zaza Pachulia, manager of the Warriors, told Mozzart Sports: “We have not received any invitation from Partizan, but I must say that it would be a great idea. I take my hat off to the president of Partizan for this beautiful initiative, Deki deserved something like this for everything he has done. It would be an honor for us to play in Serbia with Partizan, but I want to emphasize that it is not easy to arrange. There are so many factors to take into consideration, from the players to the schedule. There are so many things that have to align to make it happen. But the idea is fantastic, personally I would love to see it happen for the Serbian players and fans, but especially for the memory of a man like Dejan Milojevic.”.
