The Denver Nuggets took on the Los Angeles Lakers on opening night of the NBA’s 2023-24 season. The Nuggets beat the Californians 117 to 109 under the leadership of Nikola Jokic, who apparently trained in the offseason, otherwise it would not explain such a high level from the start.
Some have questioned Jokic’s love for basketball after hearing about his off-court interests. The Serbian center is known for his passion for horse racing, but it is clear that he has kept his basketball skills as bright as ever. Nikola Jokic spoke about his offseason routine in the wake of his recent dominant performances.
NBA analyst Kenny Smith chatted with Jokic after the Nuggets’ Opening Night win. Smith asked Jokic what his offseason was like. This was his response:
“I’ve been in the weight room pretty much every day … I prepared my body for the season. I think our body is our instrument, and if your body is not ready, something will happen to make you get injured. Maybe I missed the basketball camp a little bit more — a couple of days, or a month or 2 months…”, Jokic said via NBA on TNT.
Kenny Smith: “What was your offseason like this year? How basketball did you play?”
Nikola Jokic: “I didnt skip any days in the weight room, maybe a little bit on the court. A couple days, or a month, or two months.” 🤣
