Metta World Peace bids for Charlotte’s bench

On Sunday afternoon, the Charlotte Hornets’ disastrous 2023-2024 season ended happily — in what was coach Steve Clifford’s last game — with a surprising away win against the Cleveland Cavaliers, who many believed were playing down in an attempt to secure a more favorable playoff matchup with the Orlando Magic. Clifford had announced a few weeks ago that he and the Hornets would part ways at the end of the season, and with Charlotte long since eliminated from playoff contention in the prestigious Eastern Conference, the Hornets’ focus has shifted from finding wins to trying to develop as much of the team’s young talent as possible. Watch for the possibility of seeing Metta World Peace on Charlotte’s bench.

A major decision for the Hornets this offseason concerns the choice of what to do with the coaching job they will have in their hands in Clifford’s absence. One person who seems to have put himself on the line is none other than former 2010 NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, Metta World Peace, then known as Ron Artest, who recently showed up on his account on X, the social media platform formerly called Twitter, to offer his services to the Hornets.

“Head Coach Metta ready.”, World Peace wrote, citing a post by NBA insider Ben Stinar listing the Hornets’ long list of failures since their last playoff appearance eight years ago, when Dwyane Wade dropped them unceremoniously in the first round in 2016.

We don’t know if Metta World Peace could actually be on Charlotte’s coaching roster but we do know that he would take it in stride.
