Since Damian Lillard requested a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers, they say in the NBA that he and his agent Aaron Goodwin pushed for the seven-time All-Star to go to the Miami Heat. In fact, it has been said that Lillard will only accept a trade with the Heat and will not play for any other franchise.
This caused a lot of commentary around the situation, as the Heat did not want to give up much in trade talks knowing that Lillard wants to play for them and the Blazers do not want to give up their generational talent.
On Friday Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that the NBA sent a memo to all 30 teams in the league outlining this situation involving Lillard and sending a warning to the Blazers guard and his agent about requesting a trade to a team.
“The NBA has sent a memo to its 30 NBA teams informing them that it has interviewed Damian Lillard and his agent Aaron Goodwin about his position that he only wants to play in Miami, that yes, he wants a trade, as we have reported through sources, that his agent has also said publicly that he only wants to play in Miami.”, stated Charania at The Rally. “The league has warned both Lillard and Goodwin that any future comments like that about him just wanting to play in Miami will subject him to punishment.”.

According to Charania, the memo also stresses to the NBPA that any future comments by players and their agents, similar to those made by Lillard and his agent about going to another team, will also potentially be subject to disciplinary action. According to the memo, Goodwin denied telling teams that Lillard would play and only agreed to a trade with Miami.
