Lakers target Bronny James to convince LeBron to stay

In all likelihood, on July 1. LeBron James will be a free agent for the first time since 2018. The star of the Los Angeles Lakers, eliminated last night 4-1 by Denver in the first round of the Playoffs, is also under contract next year but has a Player Option in the summer that he intends to decline, according to reports that have surfaced in recent weeks and were confirmed just now by Brian Windhorst.

This does not mean that James will definitely leave the Lakers, who will do everything to keep him on a new contract. According to Shams Charania, the yellow-purple are seriously considering calling Bronny in the upcoming draft, so as to add an argument to their own convincing work. LeBron has never hidden the fact that he wants to play with his son in the NBA, a sort of “last wish” before retiring, and the Lakers seem to want to give him that chance now, despite the fact that Bronny did not shine at all in his first season in college. Los Angeles currently has only one pick in the upcoming draft: number 55, so it would not sacrifice a valuable asset for James Jr.

The draft will be held a few days before the start of free agency, so James will have time to weigh his decision knowing whether or not the Lakers have taken his son.

Regarding LeBron’s future more generally, however, according to Shams Charania the King will continue his career for at least a couple of seasons before saying goodbye to basketball for good. Eventually, the Lakers would be ready to offer him. “whatever he wants.”, including a three-year term at maximum salary.
